Alternative Provision

Pathfinder Education is thoughtfully designed to create a sense of calm, comfort, and belonging. We go beyond traditional educational environments by drawing on our understanding of what works to create spaces that are both practical and nurturing. Every aspect of the setting is tailored to meet the diverse and complex needs of our pupils, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and ready to engage in learning.

Enhanced Emotional Support
We prioritise emotional and psychological well-being by providing a safe, supportive environment that responds to the individual needs of each pupil. Our therapeutic approach helps students manage anxiety, build self-esteem, and develop emotional resilience, creating the foundation for positive learning experiences.

Individualised Learning
Recognising that no two pupils are the same, we implement personalised education plans that reflect each pupil’s learning style, pace, and interests. This tailored approach empowers students to take ownership of their learning and helps them achieve meaningful progress, whether they need extra support or additional challenge.

Meeting Holistic Needs
Through integrated support strategies, we address the full range of pupil needs to include academic, emotional, social, behavioural, and communication. Our experienced team works closely with each child to ensure their unique barriers to learning are understood and addressed holistically.

Improved Social Skills
Through structured activities and daily interactions, we foster the development of essential social and emotional skills. Pupils learn to communicate effectively, show empathy, and resolve conflicts constructively.

Pupil support and assessment

Pathfinder Education supports schools in assessing pupils for special educational needs through a structured, multi-agency approach that combines specialist expertise, targeted interventions, and close collaboration with school staff, families and other stakeholders.

Upon referral, we conduct a comprehensive baseline assessment to evaluate a pupil’s cognitive abilities, emotional wellbeing, communication skills, and behaviour patterns. This includes formal and informal assessments and observations, such as literacy and numeracy screening, social-emotional checklists, and behaviour observations in a variety of settings and contexts.

Throughout the placement, staff, trained in SEN and trauma-informed practice, systematically record progress, behavioural incidents, engagement levels, and responses to different teaching methods. These insights are compiled into detailed progress reports, which highlight strengths, challenges, and emerging needs.

We facilitate regular review meetings with school SENCOs, parents, and external professionals (e.g., educational psychologists or speech and language therapists) to ensure findings are contextualised and aligned with school-based evidence. This collaborative process supports the school in making informed decisions about EHCP applications, differentiated support, or specialist referrals, ultimately ensuring that the pupil receives the right level of provision to succeed.

Training

Pathfinder Education offers comprehensive support to schools by enhancing staff development through targeted and effective Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This is delivered through a combination of whole-school training, small group workshops, and individualised coaching sessions.

At the whole-school level, we facilitate interactive CPD sessions focused on inclusive teaching practices, trauma-informed approaches, and behaviour management strategies, ensuring consistency across the staff team. These sessions are tailored to the school's context and include practical tools and real-life scenarios to embed learning.

For individual staff members, we provide bespoke coaching and mentoring that focuses on the specific challenges they face with particular pupils. This may include modelling effective strategies in the classroom, joint problem-solving, and creating personalised action plans. Ongoing support is also offered through regular follow-ups, resource sharing, and reflective practice, ensuring that CPD has a sustained impact.

By combining strategic training with hands-on, personalised guidance, we help schools to build staff confidence, improve pupil outcomes, and foster a more inclusive and supportive educational environment.
